Laal Taal is a DC/Baltimore-based fusion ensemble led by classically trained sitarist Mat Poovan and guitarist Akash Apte.
Mat grew up in the Baltimore area steeped in Indian classical tradition. Akash came up in Mumbai before planting roots in Washington DC. Their music reflects both journeys, weaving Raga and retro Bollywood with Disco, Dub, and Funk into sets that move between the composed and the improvisational.
Laal Taal has performed at the Indian Ambassador's residence in Washington DC and is available for live bookings.
